An Operating System is the software that communicates with the hardware of a computer system and functions as the intermediary between all the applications and the hardware, including peripherals such as a printer, a computer mouse or a keyboard. When you run software, it sends requests to the OS using an API (Application Program Interface) and the communication is done via a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Similar to a personal computer, web hosting servers also feature an Operating System that functions as a host for any software installed on them, including script applications or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, etcetera. A virtual machine can be generated on a physical one, so you'll be able to install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment compared to the physical server host Operating System.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

We offer three Operating Systems with our dedicated server packages - CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian. They're all different Linux distributions and we offer them not only because they're free and they will not increase the cost of your new server, but also because they are outstandingly secure and stable. Each one of them is backed up by a large community of developers, so you'll be given the option to choose from many hundreds of software packages that you can install on your server if the application that you would like to work with has specific requirements. The Operating System will also determine what internet hosting Control Panel you can use as the Control Panels that we offer run on particular OSs only and because we would like to provide you with as much freedom as possible, we offer multiple OSs and multiple Control Panels. If you choose a server with a certain Operating System, we can change it upon request in the event that it turns out that you will need alternative one. We could also keep the OS updated weekly as part of the useful Managed Services upgrade.
